Fly Rod Vaults By Denver Outfitters: Installation Information

Denver Outfitters Fly Rod Vaults are designed for easy DIY on virtually any vehicle equipped with roof rails and crossbars. You'll only need a couple common household tools. Every Fly Rod Vault comes with detailed installation instructions, as well as a video demonstration available on YouTube to walk you through every step of the process. Or, have a reputable mechanic perform installation for you. Denver Outfitters can even install it for you and wrap it in custom graphics when you visit their Denver location.

Before You Install Denver Outfitters Rod Vaults

Before you begin, you'll want to make sure the standard hardware that comes with your Rod Vault will fit the crossbars on your vehicle. Denver Outfitters Rod Vaults are compatible out of the box with cross rails up to 3.5” wide and up to 1.5” thick. Thicker cross rails can easily be accommodated by substituting larger bolts. A distance of at least 27" between crossbars is recommended.

If the reel housing at the back of the Rod Vault does not have enough clearance from the roof of the vehicle, an optional riser kit is also available. Roof rails that sit low or flush with the roof of the vehicle (such as you'll find on many Toyota SUV models including the 4Runner, Sequoia and Highlander) may require a lift kit. Additionally, on vehicles with a rear hatch, make sure the Rod Vault is positioned far enough forward on your vehicle to allow the hatch to open without striking the reel housing.

Installing Denver Outfitters Fly Rod Vaults On Your Vehicle

When it shows up on your doorstep, the Denver Outfitters Rod Vault comes ready for quick and easy assembly. It arrives in two primary sections, as well as an included set of mounting clamps. Simply connect up both ends of the tubes using the provided coupler, install the mounting hardware and then secure the Rod Vault to your vehicle. The only tools you'll need are a 4mm allen wrench, a 1/4" allen wrench and blue Loctite® threadlocker so the bolts don't jostle out of position when driving down washboard dirt roads.
